Ruta Maya Trip

For all the exchange students here in Mexico Ruta Maya is the most, or at least one of the most awaited moments during whole exchange. Ruta Maya is a trip, organized by Rotary to the southern and eastern parts of the country. Usually the trip takes place rather in the end of the stay here but this year we had it from 25th of November to 9th of December. The whole trip lasted 15 days and it was a really wonderful time!

We started Ruta Maya in the morning on 25th od November. We went by bus to Campeche when we met our friends that live in other mexican states – Tlaxcala , Morelos, Guerrero and Veracruz.

During the whole trip we visited many cities and apart we visited a lot of archeological places such as Chichen Itza, Zona Arqueologica de Tulum, Coba, Uxmal and Palenque. As Chichen Itza is one of the 7 Modern Wonders of the World, it was an amazing experience to see it but the only one thing that I didn’t like was that it is a really touristic place and because of that there ar emany people there trying to sell you souvenirs.

I also really liked Zona Arqueologica de Coba ( I think even more than Chichen Itza) because of its awesome and breathtaking landscapes. The whole place is situated between forest and the view from the top of the Coba pyramid is unusual.

One place that I always wanted to go is a mexican state called Chiapas. On that trip I had an opportunity to go there, to visit Palenque. That place really inspired me because the part of mayan ruins that we could see there is merely 2 % of the whole ancient city and the rest of 98% is still in the rainforest.

Besides archeological places we also had time to lie on the beaches that they say that are the most beautiful in Mexico.

Despite everything, one thing that I loved are people. With other exchange students we have already created a small family and I had a possibility to make friends from all over the world. Although we alla re from different countries, we understand each other very good because now we are in the same situation.

I am really happy that I had an opportunity to be part of that beautiful time and all these places that I have seen inspired me to come back there and I hope it will be possible after my exchange.
